Western Wall

Shabbat Shalom from Jerusalem.  The Shabbat has begun here in the land and we have just arrived back from the coast.  Today was devoted to collecting various video footage from here in Jerusalem and along the coastal plain.  We began this morning by filming at the Kotel (also known as the Western Wall or Wailing Wall).  This is a small section of the western retaining wall from Herod's Jerusalem Temple.  It dates to the 1st century B.C.  It is the holiest site in Judaism.

After collecting footage at the Wall, we made our way through the Judean Mountains and drove through the Shephelah, continuing on to the coastal plain.  We decided to film extensively at the ancient seaport city of Caesarea.  This port city was built by Herod the Great and was the political capital of the Roman Empire in Israel.  It was here that Philip the evangelist lived and ministered.  It was here that the centurion Cornelius heard the message through Peter. This was also where Paul stood trial and sailed to Rome. The first Jewish revolt in 66 A.D. began here. The crusaders built an impressive fort here, complete with a proper European moat!  So, lots of history in the city!

Tomorrow we will spend the day here in Jerusalem collecting some final footage and carrying out some additional Bible readings.  We want to thank you again for checking-in today.  We hope you'll join us again tomorrow as our Israel Filming Project continues.  Until then . . . Shabbat Shalom from Jerusalem.
